Sanctuary 404, a world lost to history...
No record of it can be found amidst the sprawling records of the Imperium; yet it has been a bastion for Imperial forces for millennia
Located in dead space between major systems in the Nephilim sector along the south eastern fringe of the galaxy, the planet is one of a network of Sanctuary bastions operated by the Adepta Sororitas. It provides a waypoint for weary travelers, ships and Imperial forces traversing the gulf between systems.
The planet is home to a Fortress Convent of the Order of the Bloody Rose and despite its small size it is heavily defended, and houses a small choir of astropaths to relay messages across sectors.
The surface of the planet is little more than a rock with little atmosphere, and the only significant building is the Fortress Convent itself. All defenses were built in expectation of an assault from above. The thought that an ancient and lethal evil lurked below the defenders feet had never been considered.
The first sign of the profile that faced the Sisters of Battle on Sanctuary 404 was when a series of earthquakes raged across the planet. Quakes cracked the planet crust, and threw up huge columns of rock. Scouting parties sent out by Canoness Ravella reported that these were no random formations, but obelisks of polished stone and cold metal. Contact was also lost with several of the scouting parties, who disappeared without trace.
Shortly after, proximity alarms sounded throughout the Fortress Convent, and auspex scans showed thousands of hostile signatures. A lone survivor from one of the scout parties returned, and her report confirmed Ravella's suspicions of her: Necrons.
Ravella had faith that her Sisters would hold the xenos back as long as they could, but she saw that they were fatally outnumbered. She instructed the astropaths to call for aid from any nearby Imperial forces, and to repeat the call while she and her Sisters gave their lives in defense of their convent. Ravella gave a final prayer to The Emperor, before taking up her bolt pistol and chainsword. May the Emperor bring swift aid, or swift vengeance against the Necrons
